When you have scheduled an appointment for your vehicle to be collected or dropped off, it is important to have certain documents prepared. These documents will be necessary for the dealer to verify the validity of your car, transfer the money into your bank account, and complete the transfer of ownership. By having these documents ready in advance, you can ensure a smooth and efficient experience on the day of the handover.

The following items should be prepared:

If you are the registered keeper of the vehicle:

- V5C vehicle registration document (logbook): This document serves as proof of ownership and contains important information about the vehicle.

- MOT certificate: If your car is three years or older, it should have a valid MOT certificate. This certificate verifies that the vehicle meets the necessary safety and environmental standards.

- All spare keys for your car: It is important to provide all spare keys for the vehicle to the dealer.

- Photo ID: You will need to present a valid photo ID, such as a driving licence or passport.

- Proof of address: A utility bill (gas, electricity, or water), bank statement, or council tax statement can be used as proof of address. The address shown on these documents must match the address on the V5C document.

- Authority from your finance company: If you have any outstanding finance on your car, you will need a letter from the finance company confirming the final settlement figure.

- Service record book, car handbook, locking wheel nuts (if applicable), radio and key codes: These documents and items are important for the new owner of the vehicle.

- Your UK bank details: You will need to provide your UK bank details or the bank details of the registered keeper.

- Sufficient fuel: While the car dealers do not require a full tank of fuel, it is important to ensure that there is enough fuel in your car so that the fuel light is not on.

- VAT invoice: If your vehicle is VAT qualifying, you will need to provide the VAT invoice for it.

If you are not the registered keeper of the vehicle:

In addition to the above items, you will also need:

- Written authorisation from the registered keeper: You must have written authorisation from the registered keeper stating that you are able to sell the car on their behalf.

- Photo ID of the registered keeper: You will need to provide a valid photo ID of the registered keeper, such as their driving licence or passport.
